What role does the connective tissue play in cellulite?

Cellulite is a non-inflammatory change in the connective tissue that occurs exclusively in women. It manifests itself as dented skin, which resembles the surface of an orange. The reason why women in particular are affected by it lies in a difference in the structure of the connective tissue between men and women.

The connective tissue of the woman is looser connected than that of the man. The connective tissue fibres run perpendicular to the surface. As a result, fat cells can join together more easily than accumulations of cells from the inside, pressing against the skin surface and causing dents in the skin.

As a result, fat cells can shift more easily. Furthermore, genetic predisposition plays a decisive role in the development of cellulite. The hormone oestrogen, of which men, in contrast to women, have only a very small amount, ensures that the collagen stabilising the connective tissue is broken down. For this reason, fat cells can spread more easily and promote the development of cellulite.

What can be done if the connective tissue is torn?

Fine cracks in the skin or connective tissue are also called stretch marks. The development of the cracks in the connective tissue is strongly dependent on the own connective tissue. The cracks are not dangerous to health, but are often perceived as disturbing by those affected.

It is not possible to remove the tears completely. However, there are possibilities to improve the appearance of the small cracks in the skin. Some of those affected claim to have achieved an improvement by applying or massaging in oils.

These special oils are available in every drugstore. There is also the possibility of laser therapy. Here you can get advice in specialized practices.

What is a connective tissue massage?

A connective tissue massage is one of the so-called reflex zone massages, which in turn are based on the theory of segment therapy. This describes the treatment of a particular area of skin that can be assigned to a specific spinal cord segment. The function of internal organs, which are connected to a skin area via nerve tracts, can also be influenced depending on the corresponding skin area.

During a connective tissue massage, this area is mainly mechanically irritated with the fingertips. As a rule, this triggers an unpleasant feeling up to a painful sensation. In addition, small bruises may appear on the treated areas in the first few days after the treatment. The connective tissue massage is intended to increase the blood circulation and to prevent or even dissolve a sticking of connective tissue and muscle fasciae. Connective tissue massage should not be used during pregnancy, heart disease or acute inflammation.
