What should be taken into account during pregnancy?

A nail bed inflammation (onychia) during pregnancy can be very annoying and unpleasant. In order to adequately treat onychia during pregnancy, the woman should make sure to wash and clean her feet or hands at least once a day, depending on the symptoms. It is important that the inflammation is washed out and that any pus is removed.

It is best to take disinfectant baths to counteract the inflammation. Here, for example, an iodine bath or a bath with Octenisept is recommended. Then the foot should be creamed.

Here, especially a Betaisodona ointment is suitable. This also has a disinfecting effect and helps to counteract the inflammation process. It is important not to mix different disinfectants.

If one bathes the fingers and/or the toes in a solution with Octenisept, no Betaisodona ointment should be smeared on the skin afterwards. Instead, a fragrance-free cream should be used. Or you can wash your feet/hands in a bath with soapy water and then treat the inflamed area with Betaisodana ointment. It is also important in the treatment of nail bed inflammation during pregnancy that manicure and pedicure are stopped for the time being.

What should be considered when treating nail bed inflammation in babies?

Nail bed inflammation in babies is not uncommon; for example, children often injure themselves while playing. In most cases, nail bed inflammation in babies is not dangerous. However, since babies do not yet have a pronounced immune system and the inflammation can spread quickly in the body, it is particularly important to consult a doctor in the case of inflammation in babies.

The symptoms of nail bed inflammation in babies are similar to those of adults. The corresponding area is reddened and overheated. Because of the pain, the baby cries a lot.

If pus develops, an abscess (pus cavity) can develop. In severe cases, when the inflammation spreads throughout the whole body, fever, pronounced fatigue and chills may occur. In most cases, however, treatment with antiseptic ointments and baths is sufficient.

If the inflammation is more severe, the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic. In rare cases, a surgical procedure in which the corresponding area is opened by a small incision may be necessary. In order to prevent advanced inflammation, a doctor should therefore be consulted as early as possible to receive appropriate treatment. To prevent nail bed inflammation, the baby should not be put on shoes that are too tight and the nails should be cut correctly, i.e. not too short and straight.
