What to do for stomach pain and nausea?

Stomach pain and nausea can have various causes. Depending on the cause, an appropriate treatment is carried out. Stomach pain and nausea can be caused by gastritis, for example.

This is treated with stomach acid inhibitors and, if necessary, antibiotics. These drugs are prescribed by a doctor. However, stomach pain and nausea can also be caused by a gastrointestinal infection.

This is usually only treated symptomatically and subsides by itself within a few days. Warmth, calming herbal teas and easily digestible food are usually sufficient as therapy. Very severe nausea can also be treated with medication. However, such strong complaints should be clarified by a doctor beforehand.

Duration of the treatment

The duration of treatment for stomach cramps depends on the severity of the symptoms and the success of the treatment. The symptoms usually subside within a few days. Accordingly, the therapy does not need to be continued any longer.

However, in the case of recurring stomach complaints, a long-term diet adapted to the symptoms is recommended. Foods that are difficult to digest, fatty foods, coffee and alcohol should be avoided. If the stomach cramps last longer than a few days, a medical examination should be performed.

Under certain circumstances, another therapy may be necessary. The doctor treating you can inform you about the duration of the subsequent therapy.
