What to do in case of sunstroke?

If a sunstroke is suspected, the next step is to avoid the causative factor, in this case the sun or warm environments. It is also recommended to bring yourself into a quiet environment to protect your body. It is also important to ensure a sufficient supply of fluids.

In addition, it can be helpful for the affected person to put a cooling cloth on his neck and/or forehead. In case of headaches and nausea, appropriate medication can be taken, for example ibuprofen or paracetamol. For nausea, so-called travel tablets (e.g. Vomex®) can be helpful.

If the symptoms persist for longer than one or two days or even get worse, a doctor should be consulted for further diagnosis and therapy to avoid more serious progressions. Known home remedies besides leaving the hot environment directly are for example wet, cold cloths that can be placed on the neck and/or head. If ice is used for cooling, a towel should always be used as well to avoid direct contact with the skin in order to prevent frostbite.

Yoghurt or quark compresses can also have a soothing effect. For an ideal liquid intake, cold self-brewed but cooled teas can be used, to which one can add a pinch of salt and sugar. This helps to prevent electrolyte loss through excessive sweating.

There are no drugs that are specifically designed to treat sunstroke. Also preventive nothing can be taken directly. The therapy consists, as in the section above, rather of a purely symptomatic therapy.A lack of liquid should be filled up by drinking, headaches can be fought for example by taking ibuprofen, nausea can be eliminated by taking the above mentioned travel tablets.

The diarrhoea should limit itself after some time, you should only take something in an extreme emergency. Homeopathy in general can be a useful help for some people, supporting other measures to achieve success in the treatment of sunstroke. Nevertheless, it is important to know that homeopathy has no greater benefit and success than a placebo. For the homeopathic treatment of sunstroke, some substances are recommended by the alternative practitioner, which are available as globules or ointment, such as Bryonia alba, active ingredients of white fence bryony, which is said to help with headaches.
