When can I eat again? | Apicoectomy

When can I eat again?

It is still possible to eat on the day of treatment after the apicoectomy. As soon as the local anesthesia has completely worn off and the patient feels something in all soft tissues again, he/she may eat and drink. If the anesthesia is still in place, the patient could bite into soft tissues or burn himself on hot drinks without noticing.

If the local anesthesia is no longer effective, the patient should try to chew carefully on the non-operated side, soft, lukewarm food is best. Furthermore, milk products must be avoided in the first days after the operation due to the danger of infection with lactic acid bacteria. Coffee, nicotine and alcohol are also counterproductive in the days immediately after the operation, as their consumption causes complications in wound healing.

Alternatives to root tip resection

A root tip resection is always indicated if the normal root treatment did not lead to the desired goal and a suppurative focus has formed at the root tip. It is a good alternative to tooth extraction, as it ensures the preservation of the tooth.
