When is a knee brace useful?

Wearing a knee brace during sports is not always practical. During early healing phases, it is better to carry out targeted physiotherapy and achieve muscle growth without a knee brace. In the late stages of healing of many knee joint diseases, however, the knee brace can help to create the necessary stability of the knee joint for performing the sport. Symptoms that can be felt in the knee joint and which can be resolved under stress should always be examined by a physician. Wearing a knee brace alone without a doctor’s clarification of the symptoms can lead to serious complications and should not be done.

Prognosis

Depending on the cause responsible for the symptoms of the knee joint, the prognosis of the healing process varies. However, physical activity usually has a positive effect on the healing process of the disease. Wearing a knee brace can help to regain confidence in movements of the knee joint and thus carry out the training.

However, it is generally true that the extent of the sport should be discussed with the treating physician so that the prognosis is not jeopardized. Wearing the knee support alone during sport can also not lead to an improvement in the disease if symptoms occur. Therefore, any symptoms should always be clarified by a physician.
