Where is your pain

  • Synonyms:Rotator cuff damage, tear of the infraspinatus muscle, tear of the minor teres muscle
  • Location of the greatest pain: Pain is usually located under the posterior acromion, sometimes radiating into the upper arm, especially in external rotation.
  • PathologyCause:The rotator cuff tear is usually the result of an impingement syndrome. Due to a shoulder impingement syndrome that persists for years, the tendons of the rotator cuff are subject to continuous wear. Sudden movements or an accident can cause the damaged tendons to tear completely. Even a non-damaged tendon can rupture over a major force caused by an accident.
  • Age:Increase of the disease with increasing age.
  • Gender:MenWomen: 2 : 1
  • Accident:Usually the cause is wear and tear, in rare cases an accident can be the cause of the damage.
  • Type of pain: pulling, stabbing.
  • Origin of pain:Load-dependent. In the case of large tears, partial paralysis of the arm can be simulated by the loss of function of the tendon (pseudoparalysis).
  • Pain occurrence:load dependent
  • External aspects:none

Slipped disc

  • Synonyms in a broader sense:Nucleus pulposus prolapsus, disc protrusion, disc prolapse, protrusio, nerve root affection
  • Location of the greatest pain: A herniated disc can cause various types of pain.Herniated discs of the cervical spine (cervical spine), especially C4 and C5, can cause pain in the back shoulder.
  • PathologyCause:The causes of a herniated disc are very diverse. Usually they are based on a wear (degeneration) of the intervertebral disc ring.
  • Age:With increasing age more often, but also possible in younger age.
  • Gender:no gender preference
  • Accident:Mostly due to wear and tear, rarely also due to accident.
  • Type of pain: pulling pain with radiation into the affected arm
  • Pain origin:Pressing the nerve root at the exit from the spinal column causes a malfunction of the nerve, whereby the pain can partly be felt at the shoulder.
  • Pain occurrence:frequently permanent pain
  • External aspects:Usually none.
  • Synonyms:Shoulder Blade Dysfunction, Scapula – Dysfunction, Shoulder Blade Crash
  • Location of the greatest pain:Above the shoulder blade, especially above the muscle attachments at the upper and lower shoulder blade pole.
  • Cause of pathology:The causes of a scapula movement disorder are manifold. Possible causes include inflammation of the tendon attachment at the shoulder blade (enthesiopathy), shoulder blade deformities and muscle tension.
  • Age:Mainly younger patients.
  • Gender:Women > Men
  • Accident:No
  • Type of pain: pulling, stabbing
  • Pain development:load-dependent
  • Pain occurrence:Load-dependent. Sometimes also pain at rest and at night.
