Which doctor should I see?

Of course, in principle every doctor should be able to recognize a soft groin, but unfortunately this is often not the case in practice. If you fear a groin injury, it is best to consult an experienced surgeon, a sports physician or an orthopedic surgeon, who in the best case can also perform an ultrasound examination to clarify the problem. A further alternative can be the presentation in the outpatient clinic in the hospital, which is, however, rather unpopular with the doctors there. Initially, some patients also present themselves to their gynecologist or urologist for clarification – especially if the pain radiating into the genital area is the leading symptom, a gynecological or urological examination should also be performed. In most cases, however, the examination is without any noticeable result and the patient is referred to another doctor.

Prophylaxis

Unfortunately there is no proper prophylaxis to avoid a soft groin. However, it is important to ensure a sufficient warm-up and warm-up program during training and to always perform the stretching exercises correctly. You should also make sure that all muscle groups are exercised equally. Footballers in particular often shift the focus of their training to the leg muscles. However, well developed abdominal and back muscles are also important, as they are a good prophylaxis for a soft groin.

Prognosis

After the therapy, the athlete should be able to resume the old training after about 6 weeks. However, it is important to increase the load slowly and to start with light weight training and physiotherapy to protect the groin a little bit. If no therapy is undertaken, the pain will disappear after each training session, but it will always return and the development of a painful inguinal hernia will become more and more probable. Without therapy, the prognosis is therefore much worse. With treatment and surgery, about 95% of all patients are fully functional again after 6 weeks and can continue to do their sports as before.
