Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of whiplash.

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • When, how, or in what circumstances did you sustain an injury? (Please describe the injury event in detail).
    • Pre-traumatic anamnesis if necessary external anamnesis.
    • Inspection of the protocols of the first investigator or investigator (police, D-doctor, first-responding hospital).
  • Are you experiencing pain? If yes, where is the pain localized?
  • How long has the pain been present?
    • Cephalgia (headache)
    • Neck pain
    • Forced posture due to pain
    • Myogelosis (nodular or bulge-like, clearly circumscribed hardening in the muscles; also colloquially known as hard tension).
  • What other complaints do you have?
    • Vertigo (dizziness)
    • Nausea/vomiting*
    • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
    • Visual disturbances*
    • Paresthesias* (false sensations) in the arms/hands and/or head.
    • Vigilance disorders* (disorders of consciousness).
    • Gait unsteadiness*
  • Do you have anxiety about the acute stress of the accident?
