Who are the typical offenders?

The typical perpetrators of bullying are often people who have a fixed position in the group. They radiate self-assurance and often have a certain group-leading position. Both at school and at work there are just such persons.

They become perpetrators for various reasons. They want to symbolize their power, they want to play a big role in front of others, they want to cover up their own shortcomings, they are jealous of the victim’s abilities or see qualities in the other person that they cannot stand in themselves. On the other hand, there are those who mob for pure pleasure.

Often such persons show multiple social deficits and, if further diagnosis is made, psychological disorders (antisocial). In addition to the “main perpetrators”, there are often many other perpetrators who can be described as followers, but who are just as guilty of the act of bullying. They would probably not start to bully someone on their own initiative, but are afraid of becoming a victim.

This fear leads them to join the circle of perpetrators. In contrast to the “main perpetrators”, the followers often have a guilty conscience, but feel powerless in the face of the situation. The problematic thing in this case is that the larger the hanger-on group is, the more motivated the perpetrators are to carry on rather than abandon the victim.

Who are the typical victims?

The typical victims are unfortunately those who merely stand out from the crowd. Responsible can be different characteristics that either affect the person himself or his environment. The victim, for example, comes from a different country or has the same origin but belongs to a different social class.

People from lower educational and social strata are particularly often victims of bullying. A person’s behavior or appearance can also be used to create psychological terror. Sometimes it is enough not to have the same self-confident attitude towards others as is often the case with the perpetrators.

Particularities in appearance are exaggerated and negatively represented. Special abilities can also cause envy and thus create a motive for the perpetrators. Not to be forgotten is a special circle of victims that one would not actually expect: former mobbers or perpetrators. Not rarely the sheet turns around and the Mitläuferschaft turns against the initiator of the Mobbingattacken. Then this becomes the excluded one.
