Wobenzym®.

Introduction

Wobenzym® is a drug that is used to treat all types of inflammation. It is, as the name suggests, an enzyme. Enzymes are substances that consist predominantly of proteins and act as catalysts of a chemical reaction in the body.

How does Wobenzym® work?

However, Wobenzym® does not only contain a single enzyme, but a combination of active ingredients, including highly concentrated enzymes from pineapple (bromelain), papaya (papain) and animal enzymes (trypsin). Each of the different active ingredients helps in its own way to heal the inflammation in the body. Trypsin, for example, increases blood flow to the affected area by breaking down the blood fiber fibrin, thereby dissolving the small blood clots that have formed and improving the overall flow of blood.

The tissue is thus also better supplied with nutrients and oxygen. In addition, “waste products” that accumulate can be better removed when the blood circulation is stronger. Bromelain helps to reduce swelling, which leads to a reduced compression of the tissue and thus to pain relief.

Papain breaks down the so-called immune complexes, i.e. “waste products” of the predominant immune reaction. The enzymes in Wobenzym® are also supported by a plant-based active ingredient (rutoside), to which a decongesting and blood circulation-promoting effect is attributed. In summary, the combination of these active ingredients gives Wobenzym® anti-inflammatory (=antiphlogistic) properties.

It helps the body to rebalance the imbalance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory messenger substances that prevails during inflammation and thus has a supportive effect in the treatment of inflammatory conditions in the body. It also promotes the regression of edema (=water accumulation in the tissue) by sealing the smallest pores through which water can escape. This in turn reduces the pressure on the surrounding tissue and pain is relieved.

Fields of application

As already mentioned above, Wobenzym® is mainly used to treat complaints whose cause is due to an inflammatory process. The typical signs of inflammation are

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Overheating
  • Restricted function of the affected area

Wobenzym helps with injuries, where the skin is not broken through and remains intact (e.g. bruises), as well as with open wounds, where the skin is injured. Also important are the so-called micro-traumas of the musculature, i.e. the smallest injuries, which then cause the so-called muscle ache.

In both cases, the immune system reacts with an inflammation in the course of the disease, which is the natural defence and healing mechanism: an increased amount of blood transports certain immune cells to the injured area, followed by a feeling of warmth and swelling of the tissue. This swelling can now press on nerve endings, causing pain and sensitivity to touch. The healing process can be controlled by enzymes.

Enzyme therapy with Wobenzym® can accelerate the inflammation, i.e. the cause of pain. In this way, the process is faster and healing can occur earlier, resulting in faster pain reduction. It is important to note, especially for athletes, that the use of Wobenzym® during the treatment or prevention of muscle ache does not constitute doping.

Arthrosis, rheumatism or arthritis – in almost all cases, an inflammation is present in the body: Typical symptoms of joint diseases include prolonged pain and limited mobility. The pain can radiate from the actual diseased area into the surrounding tissue or be bound to only one spot – it can be difficult for patients to determine a clear source of the pain. The causes of joint diseases are very diverse, just like their manifestations.

For example, permanent overloading, accidents or even congenital malpositions can be the cause. The main common feature of these diseases is that the cause of the pain is usually inflammation. Various means and procedures are available for the treatment of joint diseases. On the one hand, one can try a therapy with common painkillers (so-called NSAR= non-steroidal antirheumatic drugs), on the other hand, in particularly severe cases, a joint operation may be necessary.

Another therapeutic approach is the use of Wobenzym®. The targeted intake of the selected enzymes accelerates the inflammatory process and thus aims to eliminate the cause of the complaints. The treatment usually leads to a reduction of swelling in the affected area, thus reducing the pressure on the surrounding tissue (including nerve cells).

Furthermore, the blood circulation is improved, making more oxygen and nutrients available to the diseased tissue, which leads to an overall reduction in pain and an improvement in mobility. Even operations, which are a great strain on the body, lead to inflammation. The goal of an operation should always be the elimination of physical complaints and thus an increased quality of life.

Nevertheless, it often happens that one suffers from increased pain or reduced mobility immediately after an operation. This is due to the fact that during the operation one causes an injury to the body and thus triggers an inflammation in the body again. Here too, treatment with Wobenzym® can be attempted in order to accelerate the natural healing process and thus bring about a faster reduction in pain. Furthermore, Wobenzym® can also be used in the treatment of thrombophlebitis, i.e. an inflammation of the superficial veins with thrombosis (= blood clot in the vessel) or also in sports injuries, as well as in cancer and radiation therapy.
