Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid

General information

One of the most obvious signs of the aging process is the formation of skin wrinkles. These are usually caused by a natural decrease in the inherent elasticity and resilience of the skin and the underlying tissue. However, wrinkles can also be caused by soft tissue defects that have nothing to do with the normal aging process.

The beginning of the 25th year of life marks a point at which the body and its metabolic performance begins to change dramatically. For this reason, from this point on we speak of the beginning of skin aging. However, signs of aging do not manifest themselves in the same way in every person and the aging process and skin aging does not always proceed at the same speed.

Factors that act on the body from the outside (so-called exogenous factors) can have a negative influence on skin aging. The excessive consumption of nicotine and/or alcohol, for example, is considered a radical accelerator of skin aging. UV light also has a negative influence on the skin’s own elasticity and resilience and therefore accelerates skin aging enormously.

Correction methods

There are basically two different methods for the correction of facial wrinkles: Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid, in contrast, is a gentle procedure which, in comparison to Botox injections and surgical facelifts, carries much lower risks.

  • The skin and/or the underlying tissue can be tightened surgically (so-called facelift)
  • In addition, wrinkles and unevenness in the skin’s appearance can be evened out by adding artificial or endogenous volumes.
  • Another, but very controversial and risky method is the use of Botox (botulinum toxin). It is a bacterial nerve poison that causes paralysis of the facial muscles and thus tightens wrinkles.

Implementation

Hyaluronic acid is an artificial, tissue-friendly material that can be injected into the tissue to fill wrinkles and skin imperfections. Novel hyaluronic acid products can be easily injected and provide a long-lasting smoothing effect. In most cases, wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid is performed on an outpatient basis without subsequent hospitalization.

It is not necessary to induce a general anaesthetic, as the treatment can be carried out absolutely painlessly under local anaesthetic. Especially small, superficial wrinkles and skin irregularities (e.g. wrinkles on the upper lip) can be compensated with hyaluronic acid wrinkle treatment. During the application, the material is inserted into the area of the face to be treated with the help of a thin needle. The hyaluronic acid is then distributed evenly within the furrows, effectively smoothing out visible wrinkles. The result usually looks very natural.
