Stem plant
The oil comes from the tropical, evergreen, and fast-growing cananga tree (ylang-ylang) in the annonaceae family, which is native to the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia, among other countries, and is cultivated in others.
Ingredients
Ylang ylang oil is extracted from the flowers of the plant with the help of water or steam distillation. It is described as fresh, floral, sunny and slightly fruity. It contains isoprenoids (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes), aliphatic compounds, phenylpropanoids and nitrogen compounds, among others.
Effects
Ylang ylang oil is believed to have antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, relaxing, harmonizing, aphrodisiac, antidepressant, and cytotoxic properties.
Indications for use
- In aromatherapy, for example, for relaxation and mood elevation.
- For the local treatment of infectious diseases.
- For the production of food, cosmetics and personal care products.
- For the preparation of high-quality perfumes (eg Chanel N° 5).
Dosage
Essential oils must be administered in a suitable dilution. As a room fragrance, only a few drops are needed.
