You can recognize tennis elbow by these symptoms!

Introduction

Tennis elbow is a disease that affects the origins of the muscles of the forearm and the tendon attachments there. The so-called tennis elbow is triggered by one-sided strain and overstrain of the corresponding muscles, which can be caused in the context of sporting activities such as playing tennis or golf, but also by certain movements in professional life or in everyday life, especially if these are monotonous. As a consequence of the wrong strain on the muscles, an inflammation in the area of the elbow develops, which eventually leads to the symptoms characteristic of tennis elbow.

These are the typical symptoms

Tennis elbow is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Pain when grasping (fist closure, giving hands) at the outer elbow
  • Pain when lifting the wrist against force
  • Pressure pain on the outer elbow
  • In the course of the disease morning stiffness of the elbow
  • Typically no redness, swelling or overheating of the elbow

Main symptom: Pain at the outer elbow

The main symptom of tennis elbow is pain. These are mainly located at the elbow. Initially, they are usually limited to the bony prominence located on the outside of the elbow and are not permanent, but mainly occur when pressure is applied to this bone or when the muscles whose tendons are inflamed are strained.

This musculature is responsible for the extension of the hand. Therefore, pain typically occurs during the following movement: In the course of time, the pain usually becomes stronger and stronger and it can happen that it does not disappear completely even when the arm is completely at rest. At such an advanced stage, they often radiate far into the forearm.

  • The extension of the wrist or even of the middle finger, especially when this extension is done against a resistance
  • Turning the forearm or stretching the elbow, if the hand is passively brought into a bent position
  • Even a fist closure can provoke pain.
