Structure and properties
Zinc acetate dihydrate (C4H6O4 – 2 H2O, Mr = 219.5 g/mol) is the zinc salt of acetic acid. It exists as a white crystalline powder with a slight odor of vinegar and is readily soluble in water.
Fields of application
- As a pharmaceutical excipient, for example in insulins.
- As a food additive (flavor enhancer in chewing gum).
- For the administration of zinc.
