Products

Zinc oil is prepared in pharmacies. In some countries, ready-made products are on sale.

Production

Zinc oil is a suspension of zinc oxide in olive oil. 100 g of zinc oil is prepared as follows:

  • 50.0 g zinc oxide
  • 50.0 g olive oil

The zinc oxide is sieved (300) and added to the olive oil in portions. According to the literature, the consistency can be regulated with highly dispersed silica. The mixture is poured into a wide-mouth jar. Other fatty oils or medium-chain triglycerides can be used instead of olive oil.

Effects

Zinc oil has astringent, skin-protecting, skin-conditioning, lubricating, emollient and slightly antiseptic properties.

Fields of application

Indications for use include (selection):

  • Diaper dermatitis
  • Intertrigo
  • Softening of scaly crusts
  • To cover healthy skin as a protection against secretions.
  • Skin inflammation

Dosage

Shake before use. Zinc oil is applied several times a day and covered with a compress or bandage.
