Hawthorn: Effect and Side Effects

Hawthorn leaves have multiple effects on the heart and blood vessels. Thus, taking hawthorn preparations leads, among other things, to an increase in cardiac strength (positive inotropy) and an acceleration of the transmission of excitation at the heart by influencing certain channels and receptors at the heart.

Furthermore, hawthorn has vasodilatory properties, resulting in an increase in blood flow to the coronary vessels and a decrease in vascular resistance. Overall, this all leads to an improvement in the oxygen supply to the heart and an increase in cardiac activity.

Hawthorn: no interactions or side effects

No harmful side effects are expected if the maximum daily doses are observed. Currently, there are also no known interactions with other agents.
