The mucilages contained in the drug form a protective film on the surface of the mucous membrane when in contact with water, thus relieving the irritation of the cough. Anthocyanins and the other phenolic compounds have anti-inflammatory effects.

Mallow: Side effects and interactions

Currently, there are no known side effects of mallow preparations.

Like all mucilage-containing substances, ingestion of mallow leaves or flowers may inhibit or delay the absorption of other drugs. Therefore, an interval of at least one hour should be maintained between the ingestion of mallow preparations and other drugs.
