13 Tips on How to Eat At Carnival

Carnival, Fasching, Fastnacht – the fifth season makes its way into German lands every year. For die-hard fools, it is a highlight of the year – also in terms of food and drink: frikadelle and currywurst, sweets and fat baked goods, beer and schnapps. Until the Karnevalsjeck falls into bed with dulled senses and slight nausea.

Stay in good spirits during carnival

Carnival may be good for the mind, but it’s less good for the body: fries with mayo to start, maybe a meatball, and then a few doughnuts. To make it easier, add a beer and, for better digestion, a schnapps afterwards – cheers! With one doughnut, six glasses of beer, two glasses of lemonade, two schnapps, a meatball roll and a curry sausage with chips (a total of 2207 kilocalories), the average energy requirement of an adult is already covered – no wonder that many Elferrat uniforms can no longer be closed! When the fool then finally climbs into bed in the evening, the body has a lot to cope with.

So you come well through the foolish days

What do we expect of our organism? It should remain healthy and fit until old age, so that we can still participate happily and colorfully costumed in the hustle and bustle of the carnival.

  • Drink plenty: plenty of mineral-rich mineral water and less alcohol keeps us sane. Therefore, a glass of mineral water should be drunk after each glass of alcohol. This will reduce the amount of alcohol ingested. Since alcohol increases urine excretion, the body loses fluid and minerals. A water rich in minerals, especially sodium, improves the body’s fluid balance, prevents dehydration and replenishes the lost electrolytes. A trick that, by the way, is not only valid at Carnival.
  • Eat a good breakfast: With a good breakfast we give the body a good basis to get through the day. Wholemeal bread with hearty but lean topping, fruit or raw vegetables, freshly squeezed orange juice and cottage cheese or yogurt make lively, full and provide many vitamins and minerals. With such a start to the day, you have less to worry about when mutzen and fries tempt – the consequences of dietary sins are kept to a minimum.
  • Calorie-conscious at the party: if you have a party coming up at home, offer lean foods like chicken breast or turkey instead of meatballs. The classic potato salad often drowns in mayonnaise and should give way to a fresh colorful salad or be prepared with dressings that contain fewer calories. Fish is a healthy and low-fat addition to the buffet; fruit salad or red fruit jelly are ideal desserts.

How to prevent a hangover

Do you know it? The morning after the carnival hurts every ray of light and every sound, the throat seems parched and just the thought of food makes you feel all over again. Coffee and a few aspirin should help to get rid of the hangover and get fit for the next round. For you, alcohol is part of the hilarious carnival? Then the following tips will help you:

  • Even if it’s not conducive to the slim line, it helps against the hangover: a fatty nutritional basis, such as knuckle of pork, fat schnitzel or French fries. Because fat prevents alcohol from entering the blood.
  • Drink a large glass of sodium-rich mineral water after each alcoholic drink: so you drink less alcohol overall, the fluid balance improves and the body does not dry out.
  • Watch out for mixed drinks containing alcohol! Their sweet taste masks their alcohol content (about five to six percent) – which is why they are easily underestimated and enjoyed in excess.
  • Do not switch between different types of alcoholic beverages.
  • Eat salty snacks every now and then. They supply the body with minerals that it loses when drinking.
  • Go in between “catching air”. So the lack of oxygen is compensated by fusel and accompanying substances.
  • Before going to bed, take 1-2 magnesium effervescent tablets – these prevent headaches.
  • The next day helps a hearty breakfast with rollmops, pickles and a strong broth, which provides the body with many minerals, especially salt.
  • Some also swear by the homeopathic Nux vomica for hangover symptoms.
  • And when the hangover and carnival are finally over for this year, a fruit day for the slim line can not hurt
