Diagnosis | Baby burns

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is usually purely clinical. From the parents’ narrative and the skin picture the diagnosis of burn can be easily made. The skin is reddened in a first degree burn and painful to touch.

In the case of a more severe burn there is also a classic blistering. Older severe burns show themselves through extensive scars. In the case of burns in the mouth caused by hot food, the diagnosis is somewhat more difficult.

Duration

A light burn usually heals completely within a few days. More severe burns are often associated with a long stay in hospital and require further treatment later on. The exact healing time cannot be predicted.

The healing process depends on many individual factors. The area, severity and location of the burn are important. The age of the child, possible previous illnesses and the time of the beginning of treatment are also decisive for the healing process.
