1st-order laboratory parameters-obligatory laboratory tests.
- Glucose (blood sugar)
Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.
- HbA1c (long-term blood glucose value) if necessary fructosamine (in case of interference with the determination of HbA1c).
- Oral glucose tolerance test (oGTT).
- Insulin (fasting insulin)
- C-peptide (part of proinsulin)
- Increased concentrations in: Insulinoma, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) due to sulfonylurea preparations, diabetes mellitus, MEN (multiple endocrine neoplasms).
- Decreased concentrations in: Hypoglycemia due to exogenously supplied insulin (insulin therapy).
- Small blood count
- Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
- Urine status (rapid test for: pH, leukocytes, nitrite, protein, glucose, blood), sediment, if necessary urine culture (pathogen detection and resistogram, that is, testing of suitable antibiotics for sensitivity / resistance).
- Renal parameters – urea, creatinine, if necessary cystatin C or creatinine clearance.
- Pancreatic parameters – amylase, elastase (in serum and stool), lipase.
