Apple Powder

Dried apple powder is commercially available as a powder to prepare a suspension for ingestion. It was approved in many countries in 2015. In Germany, it was available earlier (Aplona).

Structure and properties

The powder is made from dried and unpeeled apples with excipients. Active ingredients include the gelling agent pectin.

Effects

Apple powder binds excess fluid in the intestines and forms a gel that covers the mucous membrane as a protective layer.

Indications

For the treatment of acute uncomplicated diarrhea.

Dosage

According to the package leaflet. Stir the powder into warm drinking water or tea. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, then ingest. Administer several times daily.

Contraindications

Apple powder is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity. Refer to the drug label for complete precautions.

Interactions

Apple powder should not be taken concomitantly with other medications. A time interval of 2 to 3 hours should be observed.

Adverse effects

No side effects have been reported to date.
