Bloodroot: Dosage

Extracts of tormentil rhizome are included in some solutions and sprays for the treatment of oral mucosa. For internal use, dry extracts of the drug are offered, for example, in the form of capsules. No tea preparations currently exist commercially, but one can easily make one’s own tea from tormentil rhizome.

The average daily dose, unless otherwise prescribed, is 4-6 g of the drug.

Bloodroot: preparation as a tea

To prepare a tea from bloodroot, 2-3 g of the finely chopped or coarsely powdered rhizome is added to cold water and boiled briefly. After briefly letting it steep, everything can be passed through a tea strainer. Alternatively, the drug can be prepared with cold water for several hours and then boiled briefly.

For the treatment of inflammation of the mouth and throat should be rinsed 2-3 times a day with the lukewarm tea or diluted tincture.

To prepare a tincture, 10-20 drops of the extract (extract of the drug with alcohol) are added to a glass of water.

Bloodroot against diarrhea

Furthermore, in acute diarrhea, 2-4 g of the powdered rhizome can be infused with red wine and taken. For the treatment of diarrhea, one cup each of the tea or red wine infusion should be drunk 3-4 times a day.

When should bloodroot not be used?

Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children should take the drug only after consulting a doctor due to lack of experience. A doctor should be consulted for diarrhea lasting longer than two days and diarrhea with blood spotting and fever.

How should bloodroot be stored?

Bloodroot should be stored in a dry place away from light.
