Products
Cyclophosphamide is commercially available in the form of dragées and as a dry substance for intravenous infusion (Endoxan). It has been approved in many countries since 1960.
Structure and properties
Cyclophosphamide (C7H15Cl2N2O2P, Mr = 261.1 g/mol) is a cytostatic drug belonging to the group of oxazaphosphorines, nitrogen-lost derivative.
Effects
Cyclophosphamide (ATC L01AA01) has cytotoxic properties. The effect is due to an interaction of its alkylating metabolites with DNA, resulting in strand breaks and cross-linking of DNA strands or DNA-protein cross-links. In the cell cycle, a slowing of the passage through the G2 phase is caused. The cytotoxic effect is not cell cycle phase specific but is cell cycle specific.
Indications
- Tumor therapy
- Autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis
- Immunosuppressive treatment in organ and bone marrow transplantation.
