The following symptoms and complaints may indicate desiccation eczema (dehydration eczema):
- Xeroderma (dry skin).
- Pruritus (itching), burning – especially after bathing or showering.
- Skin florescences (skin lesions):
- Partly scaly, partly excoriated erythema (“excoriated skin redness”) on dry skin.
- Fine reticular cracks of the stratum corneum (craquelé-shaped torn, ie looks like cracked porcelain).
- Scratch excoriations, i.e. substance defects of the skin caused by scratching, which extend into the stratum papillare (papillary layer) of the skin.
- If necessary, small superficial bleeding
- If necessary, dysesthesias (sensory disturbances).
- Predilection sites (body regions where the disease occurs preferentially): lower leg (especially pretibial / located in front of the shin), extensor sides of the arms, legs and trunk.
