Fluralaner is commercially available as a veterinary drug in the form of chewable tablets and as a spot-on preparation (Bravecto). It was approved in many countries in 2015.
Structure and properties
Fluralaner (C22H17Cl2F6N3O3, Mr = 556.3 g/mol) is present in drugs as a racemate. It is a fluorinated isoxazoline-substituted benzamide.
Effects
Fluralaner (ATCvet QP53BX05) has insecticidal and acaricidal properties. It is effective within hours against fleas and ticks. The effects are due to antagonism at ligand-gated chloride channels (GABA and glutamate) in the nervous system, resulting in paralysis and death of the parasites. Fluralaner has a long half-life of 12 days and exerts its effects for weeks after application.

For the treatment of tick and flea infestation in dogs or cats.
