Prognosis | Syringomyelia

Prognosis

Syringomyelia is chronically progressive, which cannot always be stopped by surgery, but sometimes only slowed down in the course of the disease. All the neurological symptoms mentioned above are usually irreversible due to the long period of damage to the affected nerve cells and the patient has to come to terms with them in everyday life. It can lead to flaccidity such as spastic paralysis, to muscle atrophy, to postural deformity and thus to secondary pain.
