Treatment
Treatment for a child allergic to the sun is the same as for a sunburn. First of all, the child should avoid further exposure to the sun by playing in the shade and not by the water (as it also reflects the sunlight). Relief from burning and itching can be obtained by applying moist cotton cloths directly to the affected skin areas.
Therapy with medication to prevent the occurrence of the sun allergy, as well as for treatment if it has already occurred, should only be carried out on children after consulting a doctor. From the age of six years, an anti-inflammatory cream can be applied thinly to the affected skin areas if necessary. In order to treat a sun allergy, knowledge of sunburn therapy is required.

It is often recommended for children suffering from sun allergy that the symptoms be prevented by taking calcium-containing preparations. However, there is no scientific basis that proves a benefit in this respect. As long as a child eats a balanced mixed diet that also includes meat and dairy products, the body has sufficient calcium available.
In the case of very pronounced complaints, a preventive therapy with calcium can nevertheless be considered in consultation with the pediatrician, even without a proven benefit. If a child is allergic to the sun, in addition to general measures such as protection from sunlight by clothing and sunscreen, treatment with homeopathy can be attempted if necessary. There are a number of different remedies available, whereby the selection of the appropriate preparation depends on the characteristics of the skin changes as well as on the circumstances of improvement and deterioration. For example, in cases of itching and burning blisters, red discolored skin, sensitivity to touch, and improvement through cold applications, Cantharis should be chosen as the homeopathic remedy. Five globules should be taken three times a day.
