Venous Disorders: Compression Stockings for Venous Insufficiency

Swollen ankles and aching legs are the first signs of venous weakness, which in many sufferers progresses over time. Then the water retention becomes more pronounced and does not subside at night. Brown spots characterize the skin, and in some places hardened white areas of skin appear. At this point at the latest, compression treatment must be started to prevent an open leg.

Compression puts pressure on veins

External pressure reduces the cross-sectional area of the veins, thereby increasing the flow velocity of venous blood. At the same time, the compression stocking serves as an abutment for the muscle pumps. With this support, even the worn-out veins manage to bring the blood back to the heart. Compression stockings or tights are prescribed by the doctor and made to fit in the pharmacy – in the morning, when the legs are not yet swollen.

Admittedly: Wearing a compression stocking all day requires stamina and is exceedingly annoying, especially in summer. But: in many cases it is absolutely necessary to prevent further consequential damage.

By the way: the best treatment results are achieved when compression therapy is combined with one of the herbal medicines already mentioned.
