The following symptoms and complaints may indicate laryngospasm (vocal cramp):
Leading symptoms
- Anxiety
- Ventilation with face mask/laryngeal mask (laryngeal mask) not possible!
- Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
- Frustrated thoracic (chest) excursions; there is a lowering of the chest and protrusion of the abdomen, i.e., a paradoxical breathing movement called rocking breathing
- Stridor – whistling breathing sound.
- Cyanosis – bluish discoloration of skin/mucous membranes.
