Vocal Frenulum Spasm (Laryngospasm): Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate laryngospasm (vocal cramp):

Leading symptoms

  • Anxiety
  • Ventilation with face mask/laryngeal mask (laryngeal mask) not possible!
  • Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
  • Frustrated thoracic (chest) excursions; there is a lowering of the chest and protrusion of the abdomen, i.e., a paradoxical breathing movement called rocking breathing
  • Stridor – whistling breathing sound.
  • Cyanosis – bluish discoloration of skin/mucous membranes.
