Liver pain and diarrhea
Liver pain accompanied by diarrhea can have various causes. A possible disease that can manifest itself in this way is the so-called fatty liver.Over time, fat is progressively deposited in the liver tissue until the liver is finally heavily fatty. Possible causes are excessive alcohol consumption or diabetes mellitus.
Fatty liver often becomes symptomatic due to unspecific symptoms such as a feeling of pressure and pain in the right upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, but also diarrhea. Other signs are fever, weight loss and jaundice (icterus). Liver fatty degeneration means that the organ can no longer adequately fulfill its metabolic function, so that the organism can be severely impaired or even downright poisoned.
Fatty liver can finally end in cirrhosis of the liver. This is a nodular remodelling of the liver tissue, which thereby loses its function. In the final stage, only a liver transplantation can help.
Since the most common cause of fatty liver is chronic alcohol abuse, alcohol consumption must be avoided as strictly as possible in this case in order to improve the prognosis. In general, however, liver pain associated with diarrhea can also have other causes. If the symptoms persist or become worse, a doctor should be consulted in any case.
Liver pain during pregnancy is usually caused by pressure from the growing child on the liver and gall bladder. The bigger the child becomes, the less space there is for the internal organs in the abdominal cavity. Accordingly, pregnant women have to go to the toilet more often and sometimes complain of nausea, especially when the child leaks towards the stomach.
In the same way, the pressure on the liver region is therefore also increased. This can manifest itself as dull, pressing pain in the area of the right costal arch. However, liver pain during pregnancy can also potentially have other causes, which is why a visit to a doctor is always advisable if the symptoms persist.
If the pregnant woman suffers from the so-called HELLP syndrome, liver pain can also be due to this dangerous disease. In HELLP syndrome, there is excessive blood coagulation in the placental area, causing the number of platelets to drop rapidly. This can quickly lead to internal bleeding, such as bruising within the liver capsule.
In HELLP syndrome, the liver is additionally damaged by fibrin deposits. This results in increased capsule tension in the liver, which is manifested by more or less severe pain in the right upper abdomen. This pain often radiates into surrounding regions. As the HELLP syndrome is a very dangerous disease in pregnant women, any complaints that could indicate this are to be taken seriously.
