Monoclonal Gammopathy: Diagnostic Tests

Obligatory medical device diagnostics.

  • X-ray of the thorax (radiographic thorax), in two planes and skeleton, or long bones, spine, and skull – to exclude osteolysis [plasmacytoma/multiple myeloma: skull radiograph shows typical “shotgun skull”; occasionally unremarkable in early stages; monoclonal gammopathy: no skeletal destruction]

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the bone marrow-forming structures – if bone marrow infiltration and/or compression of the bone marrow is suspected.
