The crushed drug can be taken in the form of infusions or other bitter-tasting preparations. The herb or extracts or tinctures from it are further a component of many medicines and dietary supplements.
Centaury – what dose?
The average daily dose of centaury, unless otherwise prescribed, is about 6 g. For extracts of the herb, the average daily dose is reduced accordingly to 1-2 g.
Centaury: preparation and storage.
For tea preparation, 2-3 g of the finely chopped drug (1 teaspoon corresponds to about 1.8 g) is poured over boiling water and after 10 minutes passed through a tea strainer. Extraction with cold water for several hours is also possible.
The drug should be stored in a dry place, protected from light.
Contraindications
Centaury should not be taken in case of existing stomach or duodenal ulcers.
