Diagnosis of a varicose vein in the testicles

First of all, a conversation with the doctor takes place. This is followed by a physical examination. First the doctor examines the testicle in a standing position.

This is because gravity makes the veins stand out best. If necessary, the patient is asked to increase the pressure in the abdomen by pressing. This allows the varicoceles to present themselves even better.

The patient then lies down. In the case of a primary varicocele there is now a marked improvement in the varicose veins. If the veins do not recede, the cause is probably a secondary varicocele.

After the physical examination, an ultrasound scan is performed to visualize and assess the vessels. In addition, the abdominal cavity can be examined for obstructions to drainage.
