The following symptoms and complaints may indicate osteoarthritis of the acromioclavicular joint (arthritis of the acromioclavicular joint):
- Increased sensitivity of the joints to cold
- Joint swelling, usually on the same side (easily visible to the affected person, since the joint is located directly under the skin)
- Crepitation in the joint (joint noises) when moving the arm overhead.
- Muscle tension due to gentle posture
- Pain during the following movements:
- Abduction (lateral displacement or the splaying of the arm) of the arm above the vertical arc (> 120°).
- Abduction, especially in the range between 60° and 120° – painful horizontal arc (“painful arc”).
- Movement of the arm in front of the body (“bow movement”).
- Lying on the affected side
- Pain at rest, possibly radiating to the neck area.
