Aluminum lactate is commercially available in many countries in combination with lidocaine as an oral spray (Deaftol).
Structure and properties
Aluminum lactate (C9H15AlO9, Mr = 294.2 g/mol) is the aluminum salt of lactic acid. It consists of the positively charged aluminum ion and three negatively charged lactates (aluminum trilactate). Aluminum lactate exists as a white powder that is soluble in water.
Effects
Aluminum lactate has astringent (astringent and tanning), dehydrating, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic, and hemostatic properties.
Indications
For symptomatic treatment of acute infections of the mouth and throat. These include aphthae, inflammation of the oral mucosa, gingivitis, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing.

Adverse effects
