Antivertiginosa are commercially available in the form of tablets, capsules, and drops, among others. The name of the drug group is derived from anti- (against) and vertigo, the Latin technical term for vertigo or spinning.

Effects

The agents have antivertiginous properties, meaning that they are effective against vertigo. Their effects are based on interaction with the vestibular organ and with various neurotransmitter systems, e.g., histamine, acetylcholine, and GABA.

  • Flunarizine
  • Cinnarizine

Histamine agonists:

  • Betahistine

Combination drugs:

Antiemetics for nausea and vomiting:

1st generation antihistamines:

  • Meclozine
