Ash: Effect and Side Effects

It has been shown that isolated iridoids and coumarins of ash inhibit the formation of various mediators of inflammatory reactions (prostaglandins, leukotrienes). This inhibition could explain the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of the leaves and bark.

The laxative effect of manna is due to the mannitol it contains: the osmotically acting sugar increases the water content in the stool.
