Surgical therapy for low back pain depends on the underlying cause.
Surgical therapy methods should not be used to treat nonspecific low back pain [S-3-leading line: ⇓⇓].
Surgical therapy is used for radicular and complicated causes. These include:
- Tumor diseases such as bronchial carcinoma (lung cancer), mammary carcinoma (breast cancer), renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), or prostate carcinoma (prostate cancer) often make bone metastases in the spinal area
- Injuries to the bones and / or joints and ligaments
- Nucleus pulposus prolapse (herniated disc; see under “disc damage (discopathy)”)
