Burnout Syndrome: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of burnout syndrome.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Do you work in a nursing or healing profession?
  • Do you work shift or night duty?
  • Are you very ambitious?
  • Do you tend to perfectionism?
  • Do you have conflicts to deal with?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?
  • Are you exposed to stress at home or at work?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you feel exhausted and drained?
  • Do you suffer from sleep disorders or chronic fatigue?
  • Can you concentrate poorly, they are disinterested?
  • Do you feel depressed* , sometimes aggressive?
  • Headaches?
  • Are you more prone to infections?
  • Do you have stomach pain?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars, or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.
