Chrome: Supply Situation

Chromium was not included in the National Consumption Survey II (2008). Regarding the intake of chromium in the German population, data exist only from a study by Anke et al. in 1998.

Regarding the supply situation, it can be stated:

  • On average, men take 84 µg and women 61 µg chromium per day to themselves and thus achieve the intake recommended by the DGE.
  • The worst-supplied men in the study by Anke et al. took 29 µg of chromium a day and are thus just below the intake recommendation of the DGE.
  • The worst-supplied women in the study of Anke et al. took 30 µg chromium a day to eat and thus reach the lower recommendation for chromium intake of the DGE.
  • Pregnant and lactating women have no additional requirement for chromium. Accordingly, the intake recommendation for chromium is also achieved by pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Since the intake recommendations of the DGE are based on the needs of healthy and normal weight people, an individual additional requirement (eg due todiet, Genussmittelkonsum, permanent medication, etc.) may be above the intake recommendations of the DGE.
