Chronic Wound: Medical History

The medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of a chronic wound.

Family history

  • Are there people in your family who suffer from skin lesions, wounds, and/or ulcers?

Social history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any skin changes/skin defects?
  • Where are these localized? Multiple areas of the body?
  • How long have these skin changes existed?
  • Do you have varicose veins?
  • Do you have any functional limitations? Immobility?
  • Do you have wetting due to urinary or fecal incontinence?
  • Do you have pain at the wounds? If so, how severe are they and when do they occur?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Are you underweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you get enough exercise every day?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol more often? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses of it per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, which drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.
