Compensation for pain and suffering | Sternal fracture

Compensation for pain and suffering

The amount of compensation for sternal fractures always refers to the individual case and depends on the circumstances of the accident. Frequently, the cases involving compensation for pain and suffering due to a fractured sternum are traffic accidents. The compensation for pain and suffering is made up of various factors.

On the one hand, the compensation for pain and suffering, which is regarded as “compensation” for the pain suffered by the person concerned, is one of them. Here it is difficult to decide how high the sum should be, since pain cannot be paid. The patient often has lifelong pain in certain movements due to the late effects.

In this case, there is the possibility to accept the offered compensation for pain and suffering and to waive further payments, or the possibility of receiving compensation for pain and suffering for late effects is selected. In this case, however, the direct compensation for pain and suffering is lower. Often a traffic accident does not result in a single injury, but in addition to a sternal fracture, several fractures and/or contusions occur.

In addition to the sternum, the ribs, collarbone or the organs in the thorax, i.e. lungs and heart, are often damaged. This has an effect on the amount of compensation for pain and suffering. Also the losses, which result in the household or with the occupation, are considered.

These are usually between 1000 and 2000€ each. In addition, the culprit must contribute to the costs of medication, inpatient stays and therapy. All in all, in such a case, if one or more rib fractures and bruises are added, 4000 to 15000€ compensation for pain and suffering can be expected.
