Diagnosis | Skin rash on finger

Diagnosis

In case of a rash on the fingers, a family doctor or dermatologist should be consulted. A specific anamnesis and inspection of the rash and the accompanying symptoms can help to establish the diagnosis. The medical history may help identify a potential allergen or irritant directly related to the rash on the finger.

An allergy test can be used to test environmental substances for their reaction on skin and blood. In exceptional cases, a tissue sample of the inflamed area can also be taken. The skin section is then analyzed under the microscope and the cause of the rash can be determined.

Therapy

The most common forms of rash on the finger are caused by intolerances, allergies and external stimuli. The treatment is primarily aimed at avoiding the irritation in the future. For this purpose, the exact hazardous substances must first be identified in a detailed anamnesis.

With physical stimuli such as heat or cold, it is rarely possible to avoid the trigger. In this case, an antihistamine in tablet form can be taken for months. This reduces the allergy-like reaction and the rash can subside. If the effect must occur quickly or the rash on the finger is particularly severe, cortisone can also provide rapid relief.

Skin rash between the fingers

The skin between the fingers is particularly susceptible to rashes caused by physical stimuli. Heat, sweat and friction between the fingers are frequent triggers for a rash. Particularly in warm summer months and when hands are very damp, the sweat glands can become inflamed by a backflow of fluid into the excretory duct. This results in so-called heat spots or sweat blisters, together with the skin rash between the fingers.
