Diagnostics
The diagnosis requires patience, because only after all other diseases have been excluded, the diagnosis burning mouth syndrome may be made. The most important thing first of all is a good anamnesis, where possible causes of burning tongue are discussed. Questions will be asked about diet and hormone fluctuations, lifestyle, previous illnesses, and infections.
Only after a suspected diagnosis, the appropriate examinations such as taking blood samples to look for vitamin deficiency or an autoimmune disease are performed. Other causes require referral to a specialist, who will initiate further diagnostic steps. In the case of skin diseases, the dermatologist will not only diagnose the gaze but also take a smear under the microscope and, for example, grow a fungal culture.
Therapy
Depending on which basic disease is present, treatment is carried out accordingly. If there is a problem in the dental area, the dentist will of course take care of it and try to eliminate the problem like an incompatibility against the denture material.Then the burning sensation of the tongue should slowly subside and partly or completely go back.
