Diet for Psoriasis

What should be considered in the diet for psoriasis?

The symptoms of psoriasis are caused by excessive inflammatory reactions in the body. For many patients, nutrition is an important adjusting screw in dealing with the disease. This is because some foods and stimulants additionally fuel the inflammatory processes. Others have a positive effect and inhibit inflammation.

Follow these dietary rules for psoriasis:

  • Less meat: Meat and sausage contain a lot of arachidonic acid, which fuels inflammation. This also applies to high-fat dairy products and eggs. Rather enjoy sparingly!
  • Fish more often: Cold-water fish in particular are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These seem to be particularly effective in keeping inflammatory processes in check.
  • No alcohol: Wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages trigger psoriasis in some people or keep it going. Psoriasis patients better refrain from this stimulant.

Special diet for severe courses

In rare, severe forms of psoriasis it happens that the extreme scaling causes protein, vitamin deficiency and anemia. In this case it is recommended to adjust the diet or to support it with appropriate preparations.
