Duration of the entire disease
It is difficult to give an exact indication of the duration. The course of oral thrush is different in each patient because the immune systems react differently to the virus. In some cases, contact with the herpes virus causes only a small blister.
In physically healthy people, the disease is over after one to 2 weeks. An old country saying is “3 days come, 3 days stay, 3 days go. “After about 10 days, mild diseases are cured.
However, hygienic and medicinal measures must be taken during the whole time. The disease is contagious during the entire course via droplet infection. Already during the incubation period until the phase is completely healed, the virus can be transmitted.
Does the course of the baby’s development differ from that of the adult?
In children or babies under 3 years of age, mouth rot occurs more frequently. They come into contact with the virus for the first time because they are infected via their parents or other family members. Since their immune system is still weak, or because the immune system does not yet know the virus, the virus acts as a rotting.
It spreads throughout the mouth. In adults, usually only a small blister in the mouth or a blister on the outside of the lips breaks out. If the immune system of adults is weakened, several blisters can also develop.
It is important that an adult does not touch the child’s pacifier or cutlery with the mouth. In the same way, spit should always be kept away from all objects that children come into contact with. Used tissues must be removed immediately.
Even if you are not acutely ill with the herpes virus, you can still pass the virus on. Therefore you should stay away from other people and stay at home or do not give the child to school or kindergarten. The close physical contact can infect other children or immunocompromised children.
Children who are suffering from diseases such as leukemia or are taking medication that weakens the immune system are particularly at risk. Untreated mouth rot can have harmful consequences for internal organs. The virus can attack the liver or lungs and in severe cases cause meningitis. Children with neurodermatitis can therefore develop herpes eczema if they are infected because of the sensitive skin.
