Eucalyptus: Dosage

Commercially available are usually preparations containing eucalyptus oil. These are offered in the form of drops, capsules, balms, oil baths and sprays.

Eucalyptus, also in combination with other plants, is often found in the group of cold preparations. There are currently no tea preparations with eucalyptus leaves on the market.

Eucalyptus: the right dose

The average daily dose of 4-6 g of the drug for internal use should not be exceeded. For tincture, the daily dose is 3-9 g, unless otherwise prescribed.

Eucalyptus – preparation

To prepare a tea from eucalyptus leaves, 1.5-2 g of the finely chopped leaves (1 teaspoon is about 1.8 g) is poured over boiling water and after 5-10 minutes of covered standing put through a tea strainer.

When should eucalyptus not be used?

Eucalyptus leaves should not be used internally in inflammatory diseases of the stomach and intestines, inflammation in the biliary tract and severe liver disease.

Preparations from the leaves should not be applied to the area of the face in infants and young children, as this may lead to the occurrence of the scratch reflex, a spasm of the glottis with a risk of suffocation. However, this risk does not exist with proper application.

Storage and storage

Eucalyptus leaves should be stored in a dry, cool place away from light.
