Exercises | Rotational vertigo while lying down

Exercises

Some specific exercises can improve balance and dizziness symptoms. These exercises are aimed at improving the sense of balance while maintaining moderate physical activity. Initially, the head can be rotated slowly while sitting.

The eyes should also be directed alternately in different directions. This can provoke dizziness acutely but improve in the long term. While standing, you can then try to lift one leg for a few minutes.

For advanced students, the leg can also be swung back and forth to challenge the balance even more. After a while, some people manage this exercise with their eyes closed. An exercise to test coordination can also be done while standing.

With your eyes closed and your arms stretched out to the front, lift your legs one after the other so that you walk on the spot. If this is continued for a short time, it can then be checked whether you are in the same place or rotated on the spot. The latter indicates an existing disturbance of balance and coordination.

Duration

The duration of the rotation vertigo is very variable and depends on its cause. In most cases, it is a temporary fluctuation in blood pressure, which subsides after a few minutes. By drinking a glass of water or getting up and walking around for a short time, the circulation problems can often subside after a short time. If more extensive illnesses are behind the rotary vertigo, more specific medical therapies may be necessary. In general, if the dizziness has persisted for a longer period of time or if there are significant restrictions in everyday life, a medical examination should be carried out to diagnose other causes.

Course of disease

The course of the disease is individually different and therefore difficult to predict. A dizziness usually occurs suddenly as an attack. In the acute situation it can be violent and overwhelming, in rare cases it ends in fainting.

By initiating simple therapeutic measures, it can usually be remedied within a few minutes. For the duration of the vertigo, it may be necessary to refrain from strenuous activities, standing or running around if there is a risk of falling or fainting.
