Facial Eczema: Medical History

The medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of facial eczema.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Are you exposed to harmful working substances in your profession?

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the skin lesion been present?
  • Does the skin change affect the entire face or is it predominantly around the mouth?
  • Do the skin changes also exist on other parts of the body?
  • Do skin changes exist such as:
    • Pale redness of the skin
    • Nodule
    • Pustule
    • Crusts or bark
    • Skin scales
    • Areal leathery change of the skin
  • Have you noticed any other symptoms such as general feeling of illness, fever, etc.?
  • Have you been exposed to the sun a lot and frequently lately?
